View all search resultsT PLN Energi Primer Indonesia has begun the construction of a Rp 1 trillion (US$59.57 million) gas pipeline linking the West Natuna Transportation System (WNTS) to Pemping Island, Batam.
The pipeline is designed to reorient gas supplies toward domestic consumption and provide electricity for the rapidly growing industrial hub.
PLN EPI president director Rakhmad Dewanto said the pipeline was built to provide for Batam's escalating energy demand.
“Batam's future electricity demand will continue to increase and will be met primarily with gas. While most associated gas is currently exported to Singapore, this pipeline will prioritize channeling supply toward meeting Batam's domestic needs," Rakhmad said on Tuesday, as reported by Bisnis.com.
