T

he country’s manufacturing sector showed signs of slower growth in April, as softer demand and production weighed on overall activity, according to the latest survey by the Industry Ministry.

The Industrial Confidence Index (IKI), a monthly gauge of factory activity published on Wednesday, came in at 51.75 last month, easing from March’s 51.86 but still above the 50 threshold that separates expansion from contraction.

“The slowdown remains within a normal range and reflects an adjustment phase for industry,” Industry Ministry spokesperson Febri Hendri Arief said in a statement on Wednesday.

“At the same time, the increase in inventories indicates that manufacturers are recalibrating stock levels amid current market dynamics.”

The breakdown of the index pointed to a mild cooling in activity, with demand and output losing some momentum. New orders eased to 51.43 and production slipped to 51.34. In contrast, inventories climbed to 53.13, suggesting firms are building up stock, likely in response to softer demand or as a buffer against supply uncertainties.
