Eagle-eyed Indonesian gamers have discovered an Indonesian reference in an upcoming TV series.

A fan community on Twitter recently shared pictures and footage from the filming site of HBO’s The Last of Us, a live-action adaptation of the popular video game. Of those pictures, one showed what appeared to be Indonesia’s Health Ministry on the set.

The picture, shared by user @HBOsTheLastofUs, revealed the front desk of Indonesia’s Health Ministry office with the country’s national flag in the background. It was apparently taken in the series’ shooting location at the Senator Burns Building of the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) in Calgary, Canada.

The picture ignited conversations and excitement among Indonesian fans on social media over Indonesia’s depiction in the series’ post-apocalyptic story.

People from the school who witnessed the filming said that the Indonesian Health Ministry set also served as “some sort of hospital.”

“I don’t know [whether it’s related to vaccination] but it was definitely not from our school ‘cause it was only there for filming and the hallways were blocked off,” one user who claimed to be a SAIT student said, as shared on the fan community’s Twitter page.

“I asked some of the staff on set and it was for the show,” added the user.

While Indonesia itself was never mentioned nor included as a setting in the original game, the picture might hint at a backstory concerning Indonesia in the upcoming TV series.

The Last of Us started filming in July and is expected to wrap up in June 2020. The series, which is expected to air on HBO in late 2022, is said to be the largest-ever television production in Canadian history.

The original 2013 PlayStation game tells the story of two strangers, Joel and Ellie, as they try to survive a zombie outbreak in the United States. The series’ cast includes Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie.
