Despite being anxious about the chance of rain, festivalgoers still crowded the field while waiting for United States rock band Interpol to come onstage on Sunday night.

Interpol was one of the big headliners at the 2023 Joyland Festival in Jakarta, which was held at the Gelora Bung Karno sports complex’ Baseball Stadium from Nov. 24 to 26. Among many others, acts like Alvvays, Fleet Foxes and Bloc Party also enticed local audiences.

Joyland had already made its name as one of the most beloved festivals in Indonesia due to its international pull, quality line-ups and family-friendly environment.

But this time, the festival seemingly raked in more millennials with a line-up that brought an air of 2000s revival.

“I’ve listened to Interpol ever since I was in college,” 42-year-old Memet, a festivalgoer from Bogor, told The Jakarta Post on Nov. 26.

Memet sat on a wooden stool with his college friend Sahala, 42, as they both waited for the seminal post-punk-rock fusion band from the early naughties to play.

“This is my first time coming to Joyland, and it rocks. They managed to bring up a sense of nostalgia with these acts,” he said.
