Savoring the flavor of tequila requires you to sip the spirit instead of taking it in a single shot. There is a wide variety of flavors and colors, as well as quality, of this alcoholic beverage made of one specific type of plant.
However, experts in the field suggest that this may not be the optimal method for savoring tequila.
“If you take [tequila] in shots, you’ll taste nothing but the alcohol at the back of your throat,” Michael Gontana, general manager of PT Sarindo Makmur Sejahtera (SMS), said during an interview with The Jakarta Post at Clase Azul Luncheon in Suma Jakarta on Jan. 23.
“To really savor the flavors, you have to sip it neat,” he emphasized.
According to the aficionado, adding salt and lemon to the drink will only distract you from the beautifully complex flavors of the spirit.
Since mid-2020, PT. SMS has been distributing the premium tequila brand Clase Azul México in Indonesia.
Mark Nguyen, director of Clase Azul México in Southeast Asia, agreed with his colleague.
“The best way to enjoy tequila is by breathing in, and then holding your breath, taking a sip and then breathing out through your mouth,” Nguyen said.
