World Bank helps PNM provide decent housing for customers

NM held an audience along with World Bank and the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry (PUPR) regarding an affordable housing program for Mekaar customers and ULaMM. Held on July 10, the discussion was attended by Dao Harrison as Senior Housing Specialist Regional Asia Pacific World Bank, Moammar Alzia Viqolbi as Engineering and Housing Engineering Young Expert Sub-Directorate of Inter Compliance of the public works ministry and Sunar Basuki as PNM’s Operations, Digital and Information Technology director.

Most of the 14.6 million PNM customers across Indonesia do not have decent housing. This is attributed to a lack of financial access that means they can only afford modest homes. PNM is working with state-owned Sarana Multifunction Finance (SMF) to provide affordable housing support for customers whose eligibility has been tested. Continuing the commitment to support appropriate sustainability actions, PNM assisted in building houses for Mekaar customers and renovating business premises for ULaMM customers.

The discussion with Dao and colleagues of the World Bank was fruitful. They commended PNM’s initiative and saw it as in line with the global vision and mission in fulfilling the pillars of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially on the first pillar, Eradicating Poverty, and the 11th pillar, Sustainable Cities and Communities.

"Everything we do is for, again, the welfare of our customers in a sustainable way. Not only in terms of financial and social capital, we are also slowly pushing infrastructure support like this. Our friends from the World Bank are here not only to provide international validation, but to realign PNM's actions so they are in accordance with the national and international sustainability agenda," said Sunar.

"After this we will see directly the project that is taking place in Palembang," concluded Sunar.

The discussion was followed by a direct visit to Palembang, South Sumatra, assisted by the Palembang Branch and the PNM JMK Team on July 12. With more than 500,000 PNM customers in South Sumatra, several customer housing surveys and thorough reviews were carried out.

PNM will continue to promote real corporate action based on the people's economy. Collaboration will also continue for a more holistic and effective program for PNM customers.
