ermodalan Nasional Madani (PNM) has become a role model for ultra-micro financing (UMF) in Indonesia and has been awarded The Most Outstanding Corporate in Ultra Micro Finance for Communities Empowerment at the 2023 Bisnis Indonesia Financial Awards held at the Westin Jakarta Hotel in Jakarta on Aug. 24.
The award was presented by deputy editor-in-chief of Bisnis Indonesia, Fahmi Achmad Triant, to PNM CEO Arief Mulyadi.
"Of course, appreciation like this further bolsters our optimism that ultra-microfinance can become a vehicle for Indonesian society to progress, transitioning from underprivileged to prosperous," Arief stated.
As of July, PNM has successfully engaged with 14.7 million active customers across 4,000 plus service offices located in 6,018 sub-districts throughout Indonesia. The root cause of extreme poverty in Indonesia, as identified by National Team for the Acceleration of Poverty Reduction (TNP2K), is primarily limited access – be it access to education, facilities, information and particularly access to capital. These individuals can be categorized as the unbankable population. PNM's vision revolves around improving the well-being of Indonesian society by empowering the economic and social potential within each family. PNM's optimism is fueled by the millions of customers who serve as the blueprint for its success.
"Not a few of our customers have moved up the socioeconomic ladder by increasing their loan ceilings. However, what's most important is the elevation of our customers from underprivileged to prosperous, from unbankable to bankable, as all their basic needs are now fulfilled," Arief added.
PNM's contribution goes beyond financial resources, encompassing social and intellectual assets. This is reflected in the provision of guidance and training for PNM Mekaar customers. Through business capacity development programs, training is offered to enhance trading skills, preparing ultra-micro entrepreneurs to compete in the Indonesian market.
PNM hopes that its commitment will continue to hold significance and make a tangible impact on Indonesia. This way, Indonesian society can grow, care and inspire.
