aybank Indonesia officially launched the World Athletics' Elite Label road race, the Maybank Marathon, scheduled to take place on Aug. 25, at the Bali United training center in Gianyar, Bali.
The announcement of the 2024 Maybank Marathon was made during a press conference attended by Maybank Indonesia president director Taswin Zakaria, Maybank Marathon project director Widya Permana, secretary-general of the Indonesian Athletic Association (PB PASI) Tigor Tanjung, members of the media and event partners.
The 2024 Maybank Marathon will feature competitions in the marathon, half-marathon and 10k categories, as well as a children’s sprint, with a total prize pool exceeding Rp 2.7 billion. Race pack collection is scheduled for Aug. 23-24, also at the Bali United training center.
"We are grateful for the success of the 2023 Maybank Marathon, which saw participation by over 13,000 runners. This serves as a milestone for us to elevate the standards of this year's Maybank Marathon. As organizers, we hope that the Elite Label Maybank Marathon continues to provide a platform for running enthusiasts from around the world to realize their aspirations and achieve their best performances at our event," said Taswin.
During the press conference, Taswin revealed the relocation of the race venue and race pack collection for the Maybank Marathon to the Bali United training center. This decision underscores Maybank Indonesia's commitment to enhancing the quality of the event and prioritizing the comfort and safety of both participants and the overall event.
"As the first and only Elite Label event in Indonesia, we continue to strive to deliver a memorable running experience for all participants," added Taswin.
Widya said the organizing committee had undertaken a series of technical preparations for hosting the 2024 Maybank Marathon at the new location, including infrastructure readiness.
The 2024 Maybank Marathon event will integrate sustainability initiatives by providing participants the opportunity to engage in a carbon-offset program to reduce emissions during the event. Additionally, participants will be encouraged to use reusable silicone cups and paper cups as alternatives, to reduce plastic consumption. Waste-management programs will also be implemented throughout the duration of the event.
Similar to previous Maybank Marathons, Maybank Indonesia will stage the “Road to Maybank Marathon 2024” series in six cities: Denpasar, Bali; Surabaya, East Java; Bandung, West Java; Semarang, Central Java; Makassar, South Sulawesi; and Jakarta from April to August. The series will offer training and educational programs such as running clinics, Sunday morning runs, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and life support training, and other physical preparation education.
