T Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM) held an empowerment event for coffee farmers in the Kintamani region of Bangli regency, Bali. The event, which took place at the Farmers’ Support Center (FSC), was attended by PNM's operational director, Sunar Basuki, and involved collaborations with Coop Coffee Indonesia, the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Ministry and the Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Ministry.
At the event, 50 PNM customers, mostly Kintamani coffee farmers, received training on the use of organic fertilizers from Coop Coffee Indonesia in partnership with the MSMEs Ministry. The initiative aims to enhance the productivity and sustainability of coffee farming in the region. Additionally, PNM collaborated with the Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Ministry to provide education on women’s empowerment, focusing on gender equality to support women’s roles in business development and family welfare.
Kintamani coffee, which has received a Geographical Indication Certificate, holds great potential to add value for farmers in the area. To date, PNM has worked with Coop Coffee Indonesia to supply coffee from its customers to Starbucks, with an average annual shipment of 10 containers. Sunar Basuki, PNM's operational director, said, "PNM is committed to driving the development of coffee farmers' business capacities. We aim not only to help them produce raw materials but also to assist in processing coffee to gain more sustainable value."
This initiative also aligns with the vision of the State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Ministry to create dynamic, productive, skilled human resources with knowledge and technological expertise, supported by industry collaboration and global talent. Empowering Kintamani coffee farmers is expected to improve their competencies and competitiveness, enabling them to become part of the high-value global supply chain.
As a tangible form of support, PNM, through its corporate social responsibility (CSR) program, provided Arabica Kintamani coffee seedlings to farmers in the area. It is hoped that these seedlings will help farmers increase their productivity and improve the quality of their coffee, thereby positively impacting local economic growth.
PNM hopes that through this strategic collaboration, Kintamani coffee farmers can further develop their business capacities, not only in terms of production quantity but also in quality and added value. By fostering a supportive business ecosystem, PNM is committed to continuing its support for farmers, helping them compete in both national and international markets while contributing to the sustainable well-being of the local community.
