KPK deputy steps down, escapes ethics probe
The KPK deputy chair has escaped an ethics breach allegation against her by a hair's breadth when her resignation was formalized on Monday, the day that the related investigation was to present its conclusions.

he sudden resignation of Lili Pintauli Siregar as the deputy chairperson of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has allowed her to escape allegations of ethics violations.
Lili has been at the center of a controversy in recent weeks, after she was reported to the KPK Supervisory Board (Dewas KPK) for allegedly receiving gratuities in the form of hotel stays and flight tickets to attend the MotoGP’s Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia in March in Mandalika, West Nusa Tenggara.
The board confirmed in April that it had received a report alleging that Lili had violated the commission’s code of ethics. It had also opened an investigation into the matter and interviewed Pertamina president director Nicke Widyawati that same month.
Lili was then summoned to a hearing on the investigation’s conclusions, which was originally due to take place on July 5 before it was postponed to Monday.
However, Dewas KPK announced yesterday, after her resignation was formalized by a presidential decree, that it was canceling the ethics hearing and dropping any potential sanctions against Lili.
"So the code of ethics can no longer be used” to evaluate Lili, said Dewas KPK chairman Tumpak Hatorangan Panggabean.
“As such, Dewas KPK has declared the ethics [hearing] to be invalid," Tumpak said after Monday’s hearing, as quoted by Tempo. He added that Lili had submitted her resignation letter on June 30, long before the presidential decree was issued on Monday.
