alls are mounting for more transparency in the investigation of a fatal shootout between two police officers at the residence of the National Police’s internal affairs chief, as observers highlight a number of irregularities surrounding the case.
The National Police have said officer E, ranked second agent, was acting in self-defense when he shot and killed fellow officer Brig. J at the residence of internal affairs chief Insp. Gen. Ferdy Sambo on Friday afternoon.
The case has garnered significant national attention, with President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo weighing in on the issue on Tuesday.
“The legal process must be [followed],” Jokowi told reporters on the sidelines of a visit to farmers in Subang, West Java.

House of Representative Commission III overseeing legal affairs and security plans to summon National Police chief Gen. Listyo Sigit Prabowo to hear his explanation of the events surrounding the fatal shooting and the ensuing investigation.
Commission III chairman Bambang Wuryanto said there had been many irregularities in the handling of the case and that the police chief needed to provide a clear explanation of the events and conduct a transparent probe.
