COVID-19 vaccine booster shots have become mandatory for domestic travel as the government looks to get its slumping vaccine coverage up.
he government has made the third dose of a COVID-19 vaccine mandatory for all domestic travelers nationwide, according to a recently issued circular, as the country tries to increase its stagnant vaccination coverage.
While Indonesia has continued apace with initiatives to normalize travel amid the ongoing pandemic, getting a booster shot was previously not a travel requirement, as people were still able to produce negative COVID-19 test results prior to departure.
However, as per a COVID-19 task force circular signed by the head of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), Lt. Gen. Suharyanto, booster shots have now become a domestic travel requirement for all people over 18.
For travelers between six and 17 years old, they are only required to have fulfilled a primary two-dose vaccination regimen, while those under that age bracket are exempted but must be accompanied by a boosted adult.
People who are medically unable to get COVID-19 vaccines administered need only present a doctor’s note from a state-sanctioned hospital confirming their status, and are no longer required to present negative test results.
The travel policy came into effect on Thursday and would remain in place until further notice.
