tate-owned news agency LKBN Antara plans to move its newsroom to its old address in Pasar Baru, one of the historic quarters of Central Jakarta.
Antara will start renovating their Pasar Baru buildings next month and turn them into what the news agency describes as a new complex for modern journalism.
"The [ceremonial] groundbreaking [for the project] will take place on Dec. 13 this year, coinciding with the 85th anniversary of Antara news agency," president director Meidyatama Suryodiningrat said recently in a statement.
Most of Antara’s operations are currently based at the Wisma Antara building in Central Jakarta, located some 5 kilometers away from Pasar Baru.
The new office complex will consist of two major parts: the Antara Photojournalism Gallery (GFJA) building – which is currently used for photo exhibitions or other events related to photojournalism – and the former building of the Dutch East Indies news agency, Aneta, during the colonial period.
The former Aneta building will be transformed into a converged newsroom and a learning hub for anyone wanting to improve journalism in Indonesia. Meanwhile, the GFJA building will maintain its function as a gallery and museum for journalistic work and artwork as well as a place for hosting public discussions.
The renovation project followed the selling of Wisma Antara in September.
