President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has asked the European Commission and the Group of Seven bloc to lend "support and flexibility" so that this week's Group of 20 Summit can produce a declaration, he said in a statement on Monday.

"I want concrete results from the G20's work, which the world waits to be achieved," he said during a meeting with Ursula von der Leyen, the European Commission president, ahead of the summit to be held on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Speaking in Singapore, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that it would be difficult to come up with a clear statement on global issues and the war in Ukraine at the G20 meetings.

"We are working very hard to ensure that we not only make clear, important statements on all the issues that affect the world together [...] but also on the issues of peace and the consequences of the Russian war of aggression on Ukraine," he said.

"That's going to be a tough ride, and I think it's going to take up a lot of our time and efforts in Bali."

Separately, the United Kingdom government said on Monday that Prime Minister Rishi Sunak would call on the G20 for coordinated action to address international economic instability and the rising cost of living in the wake of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
