akarta-based tax official Rafael Alun Trisambodo has lost his position as a government worker at the Finance Ministry, following Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati's decision to officially dismiss him from the corps.
The Finance Ministry's inspector general Awan Nurmawan Nuh said he had issued a recommendation to Sri Mulyani following an internal probe and that the finance minister had agreed to implement the decision.
"The proposal has been forwarded to the finance minister and she has agreed to it," Awan said.
In its internal probe into Rafael, the ministry's inspector general's office found that some of the wealth reported by the tax official did not match his profile as an echelon 3 official.
The probe also found that the tax official had not fully disclosed the amount of wealth that he and his family kept.
It also found that Rafael failed to pay taxes on some of his properties. "He fails to report and pay his taxes and also lives a lifestyle inconsistent with the modesty principles applied to government workers," Awan was quoted by Antara as saying.
Last week, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) summoned Rafael for questioning at the antigraft agency’s headquarters in Central Jakarta.
