The task force consists of the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK), the Finance Ministry, the National Police, the Attorney General’s Office, the State Intelligence Agency and Mahfud's own ministry, as well as high-profile experts.
oordinating Legal, Political and Security Affairs Minister Mahfud MD said on Friday that the joint task force tasked with investigating the Rp 349 trillion (US$23.78 billion) of suspicious transactions at the Finance Ministry was ready to work to uncover any alleged money laundering that had been going on within the ministry.
Speaking to reporters after the first meeting of the joint task force headed by the minister himself, Mahfud said the task force was committed to improving financial governance and to eradicate corruption.
“We are ready to work and starting from this moment we are selecting which cases we are going to prioritize,” Mahfud said.
The task force consists of the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK), the Finance Ministry, the National Police, the Attorney General’s Office, the State Intelligence Agency and Mahfud's own ministry.
Several high-profile figures have also been named as expert staffers at the task force, such as former Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) deputy chairman Laode M. Syarif, economist Faisal Basri and former PPATK head Yunus Husein, among others.
The task force notably does not involve the KPK, with the coordinating ministry’s deputy III and the task force’s head of operational team Sugeng Purnomo saying that Mahfud had communicated the matter with the KPK chairman Firli Bahuri and told the latter that the KPK would not fit with the team.
“However, the PPATK’s reports [on the Rp 349 trillion of suspicious transactions] has also been sent to the KPK, and later we will schedule a meeting with the KPK,” Sugeng said on Friday as broadcast by KompasTV.
