The AGO has detained the operations director of a construction firm belonging to the family of former vice president Jusuf Kalla as a suspect in a graft case connected to a toll road development project.
he Attorney General's Office (AGO) on Tuesday named operations director Sofia Balfas of PT Bukaka Teknik Utama, a construction company belonging to the family of former vice president Jusuf Kalla, as a graft suspect.
Investigators detained Sofia after questioning her on Sept. 19 for her alleged role in rigging the project tender for constructing section II of the Muhammad Bin Zayed (MBZ) elevated toll road in West Java.
"After intensive investigation and based on two pieces of evidence, today we decided to name SB, the director of operation at PT Bukaka Teknik Utama, as a suspect," AGO director of investigation Kuntadi told a press briefing on Tuesday, referring to Sofia by her initials.
The AGO earlier named three other suspects in the graft case that caused an estimated Rp 1.5 trillion (US$100 million) in losses to the state.
Founded in 1979, Bukaka Teknik Utama is controlled by the Kalla family and has managed multinational projects including a passenger boarding bridge, steel bridge, oil and gas equipment and road construction equipment.
