This was disclosed by team leader Arsjad Rasjid on Wednesday after a meeting at the High End Building in Central Jakarta, which was also the headquarters for Jokowi’s campaign team in the 2019 election.
“During [the meeting], we primarily discussed the structure and strategy of the national campaign team, which will mainly focus on work, work and work,” Arsjad, who is also on-leave chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) said, as quoted by Kompas.com.
Aside from Arsjad, Wednesday’s meeting was also attended by a number of newly unveiled deputy chiefs of the campaign team. They include Agency for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (BP2MI) head Benny Rhamdani, who also serves as deputy chair of the Hanura Party – one of two non-parliamentary parties backing Ganjar’s presidential bid.
Benny, a former prodemocracy activist during the 1998 reform movement, is a seasoned politician who has held seats at the Regional Representative Council (DPD) and the North Sulawesi Legislative Council (DPRD). He was also part of Jokowi’s 2019 presidential campaign team.
Alongside Benny, new recruits to the campaign team include Ammarsjah Purba and Andi Gani Nena Wea. Ammarsjah was also a 1998 activist, while Andi is the head of the Indonesian Workers Union Confederation (KSPSI).
