The General Elections Commission (KPU) has announced the schedule for the 2024 general elections debates for presidential candidates, to take place five times leading up to the election day.
The General Elections Commission (KPU) announced on Wednesday the schedule for presidential debates for all candidates starting from December ahead of the election on Feb. 14.
According to Elections Law No. 7/2017, the KPU will conduct presidential candidate debates in five sessions.
The first and second debate sessions will take place on Dec. 12 and 22, and the third and fourth debates will take place on Jan. 7 and 14.
The KPU will hold the final presidential debate on Feb. 4, 10 days ahead of the election day.
Before issuing the schedule, the KPU spent the entire day on Wednesday holding meetings concerning the concepts, methods and subthemes of the sessions.
Upon finalizing the plan, the KPU informed the presidential candidates and their running mates on how to proceed with each debate.
Apart from the next president, the 2024 general election will simultaneously see the election of new members of the Regional Representatives Council, the House of Representatives and regional legislative councils at the provincial, regency and mayoral levels.
