Presidential candidate Anies Baswedan, who has been issued the ballot number No. 1, promised on Sunday that he would to form a special team to reduce the price of goods if he won next year.

“We want affordable goods to be top priority. In fact, we plan that in the first 100 days, there will be a special team whose job is to reduce the prices of goods so everyone can feel an immediate change,” Anies said during a campaign event at Pancing Sports Hall in Deli Serdang, North Sumatra, as quoted by detikNews.

The former Jakarta governor also promised a special program to develop public transportation in Medan that would rival Jakarta’s transit system.

“We will build efficient public transportation in Medan so it is easier to get anywhere [and] at an affordable price,” he said.

He added that Jakartans could travel anywhere in the city for just Rp 10,000 (65 US cents) using public transportation. Developing a similar system in other cities could help more families save money, he said.

“If the state facilitates public transportation, it will help reduce the cost of living,” Anies said.

At the same event, Anies also expressed his concern over a potential for security forces, the General Elections Commission (KPU) and the Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) to lean toward supporting certain candidates in the 2024 election, and urged these institutions to uphold neutrality.
