The PDI-P presidential candidate reaffirmed his commitment to carry on with the development of the country's new capital Nusantara as mandated by the IKN Law, while visiting the site of the megaproject in East Kalimantan on Thursday.
Ganjar Pranowo, the presidential candidate of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), has reaffirmed his commitment to continue the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) megaproject if he is elected next year.
“From the beginning, I have always been consistent [about] implementing an established regulation [on the IKN],” he said on Thursday, as quoted by CNBC Indonesia, during his visit to the site of the new capital in Sepaku, Penajam Paser Utara regency, East Kalimantan.
He added that whoever won the 2024 presidential election must abide by the IKN Law and other relevant regulations.
Ganjar also noted that discussions to relocate the nation’s capital had started during the term of Indonesia’s first president, Sukarno, but that work on the project only began under President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.
He reiterated that he would continue to develop the IKN project as planned, and asserted his readiness to work in the new capital if he was elected president.
“Hopefully, the city will come to realize Indonesia’s hopes. This is the city of the future designed to reflect our dreams, a modern civilization, the aspirations of younger generations,” said the former Central Java governor, as quoted by Antara News.
Ganjar visited several areas of the IKN development project, including “ground zero”, the actual site of the new capital, and the Techno House, which he said reflected the country’s aspirations.
