A

group called Pandawa Nusantara has reported former Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) chairman Agus Rahardjo to the police, accusing him of defamation for his remarks claiming President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo had asked him when he was still serving at the antigraft body, to drop an investigation into Golkar politician Setya Novanto.

In 2017, Setya, then House of Representatives speaker and Golkar Party chairman, was a suspect in the massive e-KTP corruption case and later found guilty of accepting bribes in the project. His prosecution had been a difficult process amid his fierce legal challenges against the investigation. Setya was eventually sentenced to 15 years in prison and is currently still serving his term.

The complaint, lodged with the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim) on Monday, said Agus’ claim about Jokowi's alleged intervention into the case had tarnished the President's reputation. Jokowi himself has not expressly denied the claim that he asked Agus to intervene.

Pandawa Nusantara secretary-general Faisal Anwar said Agus’ claims amounted to defamation. He believes that Agus’ statement also undermines the President’s dignity as the head of state.

“We, from the central executive board of Pandawa Nusantara, believe that the narrative conveyed is strongly laden with defamation and tarnishes the President’s good name and dignity,” said Faisal, as quoted by detiknews.

According to Faisal, if Agus was dissatisfied with the request to halt the e-KTP investigation, he should have taken official legal procedures, instead of disclosing it to the media.
