Prabowo’s free lunch program to spend Rp 1t per day, spokesman says

Spokesperson for the campaign team of Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka, Burhanuddin Abdullah, said on Wednesday evening that their proposed free lunch and milk program was forecast to cost Rp 1 trillion (US$64.46 million) per day and could create new jobs for citizens.
“Take, for example, some similar policies, such as the intention to create job opportunities, to revitalize education; within Prabowo-Gibran’s programs, there is a free lunch and milk program for 82.9 million recipients,” said Burhanuddin, as quoted by cnnindonesia.com.
Burhanuddin was speaking during an event in Jakarta where volunteers voiced their recommendations to be included in Prabowo-Gibran programs if they win the 2024 presidential election.
He said the recommended policies were integrated into the candidate pair’s programs.
The former Bank Indonesia governor said there would be 82.9 million recipients in total, comprising 30 million toddlers, 44 million students ranging from elementary to senior high school levels, 5 million pesantren (Islamic boarding school) students and 3 million pregnant women.
Burhanuddin said that the total estimated cost of the program was around Rp 1 trillion per day and it would come up to Rp 300 trillion per year.
He said the program would require 45,000 new kitchens, which in turn would create jobs.
