The United Development Party (PPP) has said it remained untroubled despite some members declaring support for rival presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto and running mate Gibran Rakabuming Raka.
The Muslim-based party recently fired one of its members accused of defecting to frontrunners Prabowo-Gibran, who are running on the ticket of Gerindra Party-led alliance.
The member in question was Witjaksono, the deputy chair of the PPP’s advisory council who recently organized a meeting under the banner of the party to declare support for Prabowo.
But PPP advisory council chairman Romahurmuziy told The Jakarta Post on Monday that Witjaksono and some other colleagues involved in the event never obtained his approval nor that of the party central board to do so.
The PPP partners with the largest party at the House of Representatives, the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), in an electoral alliance backing PDI-P politician Ganjar Pranowo and running mate Mahfud MD.
Ganjar-Mahfud is also supported by two parties that are not represented in the House: Hanura and Perindo.
