A newly launched online platform jagapemilu.com encourages greater public awareness and participation in ensuring that the February general election, from campaigning to the vote count, is fair and accountable.

The website, launched on Friday by a group of activists, academics, legal experts and students under an initiative called Jaga Pemilu (Safeguard the Election), allows people to report suspected election fraud by candidates and other foul play by election organizers or the state apparatus.

Reports of violations submitted to the website will be verified by a monitoring team against the facts on the ground, said Jaga Pemilu executive committee secretary Luky Djani during the launch of the website.

“People can later check [on the website] whether their reports have been processed, to what stage, and what is Jaga Pemilu’s recommendation [or] if we pass the report to Bawaslu [Elections Supervisory Agency],” Luky said.

Besides receiving reports, Jaga Pemilu would also analyze social media conversations to search for information on alleged election fraud already being discussed, he added.

The public is also invited to gather and submit C1 vote tally reports, which record the vote count of each polling station, to compare with data from the General Elections Commission (KPU).
