Presidential chief of staff Moeldoko, a former Indonesian Military (TNI) general, also dismissed the speculation, saying that the cabinet remained united behind the President and was working to deliver his development goals.
senior official at the Presidential Palace said on Friday that news of the possible resignation of some senior cabinet ministers was a rumor designed to sow confusion that could end up destabilizing President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo’s government.
Presidential chief of staff Moeldoko, a former Indonesian Military (TNI) general, also dismissed the speculation, saying that the cabinet remained united behind the President and was working to deliver his development goals.
"I am a former TNI commander, so I know what this is all about and I know where this is going. The objective is to destabilize the government, this hard-working, highly functioning government," Moeldoko was quoted as saying by Antara.
A senior economist said earlier this week that a number of ministers were planning to quit, including Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati, amid concerns of ethical breaches in the government.
A report from the Tempo weekly said that Sri Mulyani was also angry over a statement during a presidential debate from Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto, who is the frontrunner for the Feb. 14 presidential election and who accused her of withholding money for weapons procurement.
The Finance Ministry issued a statement on Friday that Sri Mulyani "continues to carry out her duties in managing state finances."
"Minister Sri Mulyani continues to carry out her duties in managing state finances professionally and responsibly in accordance with good governance and regulations," the ministry said in a statement.
