resident Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has ordered the central government to spend Rp 14.6 trillion (US$931,250) on repairing the country's road network throughout 2024, including Rp 1.36 trillion for Central Java.

Jokowi said in his speech on Monday, where he inaugurated a new section of road connecting areas in the southern part of Central Java prone to damage after Mt. Merapi eruptions, that 40 sections of the road had been repaired using funds from his government.

"In Magelang alone, there are four sections of road spanning 18.2 kilometers repaired with a fund of Rp 31.9 billion," Jokowi said, referring to the Central Java regency at the foot of Merapi’s western slope.

The newly repaired road is also to be used as an evacuation route in the event of an eruption.

The President and First Lady Iriana left Jakarta on Monday to kick off the working visit to the province.

On the visit, Jokowi is also expected to inspect other infrastructure projects in Central Java, as well as distribute social assistance (Bansos), which has become his signature move during his time in office.
