At a recent party event, Golkar chairman Airlangga Hartarto said the party should receive at least five seats in the incoming cabinet, claiming that more than half of the party’s supporters voted for Prabowo and his running mate Gibran Rakabuming Raka.
n early disagreement appears to have arisen over the composition of president-elect Prabowo Subianto’s cabinet, as coalition members openly express differing opinions on how best to allocate ministerial seats.
While disputes over the 2024 presidential election results are still ongoing at the Constitutional Court, preliminary discussions are already underway between the president-elect and the leaders of the parties that support him regarding the composition of the incoming cabinet.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Ahmad Muzani, the secretary-general of Prabowo’s own Gerindra Party, suggested that the members of his future cabinet must at least share his vision for, and commitment to, the programs he presented in his campaign.
“Ministers will serve as aides to the president. They will carry out the work program based on the president’s policy, not the minister’s, so as a requirement, […] agreeing with the president’s program is mandatory,” Ahmad said.
Other parties that supported Prabowo in the general election have also expressed views on the cabinet lineup.
The Golkar Party, which won the largest share of votes in the legislative election of the parties in Prabowo’s Onward Indonesia Coalition (KIM), suggested that roles in the incoming government should be allocated based on coalition members’ respective contributions to Prabowo’s victory.
