he family of President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has once again come under public scrutiny with the appointment of the President's nephew as a manager at state-owned energy giant Pertamina.
Instagram account @undercover.id, with around 1.6 million followers, recently revealed that Jokowi’s nephew, Bagaskara Ikhlasulla Arif, currently serves as non-government relations manager at Pertamina, stirring public debate over the issue of nepotism surrounding the country’s first family.
Pertamina spokesperson Fadjar Djoko Santoso confirmed the news, stating that the son of Jokowi’s youngest sister Titik Relawati had held the position since March 2024.
Bagaskara, who previously worked at state-owned lender Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI), was recruited by the company through formal procedures. “It’s true. He was recruited by Pertamina in 2021 through professional channels,” Fadjar said on Thursday, as quoted by Kompas.com.
Bagaskara's position as Pertamina manager adds to the long list of Jokowi's family members who hold strategic posts in the country.
