T

he Communications and Information Ministry is planning to “take care” of Elaelo.id, a website claiming to be a social media network that went viral after the government warned X it would block access for Indonesian users over the platform’s pornographic content.

The website has been widely discussed in the past week among social media users who allege it was created by the government to replace Elon Musk’s social media platform.

But Communications and Information Minister Budi Arie Setiadi said on Wednesday that the government had nothing to do with Elaelo.id, which it suspected was a phishing website intended to fool or mislead users into sharing their personal information for malicious purposes.

The ministry was currently trying to find out who or what was behind the site, Budi said, and that the government “will take care of the site”, as quoted by Kompas.com.

Although the minister vowed that Elaelo.id would be gone in the near future, The Jakarta Post found that it was still accessible as of noon on Thursday.

At that time, the site featured an all-black landing page with the state emblem Garuda Pancasila in the center and text that read, “Ela Elo Is Coming, Big Features Will Be Ready”.
