As talk of Anies possibly joining forces with the younger son of outgoing President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo for the Jakarta gubernatorial election continues, Anies has said he is willing to meet with Prabowo before the race in November, noting that “exchanging ideas” with all parties is essential.

“Of course we will build communications with everyone. God willing, we will be in touch with party leaders, including Pak Prabowo," Anies said on Saturday, as quoted by Kompas.com.

“Forging communications is a necessity because political parties are currently considering, weighing [their options for candidates for] regional elections,” he added.

Prabowo has maintained that he will open his door to anyone who wants to forge ties, including Anies, who ran against him in the February presidential election, said the deputy chair of Prabowo’s Gerindra Party, Habiburokhman.

"There's nothing wrong with starting communication. The more meetings between [political] figures, the better," he said. "We all know that Prabowo has never held grudges against anyone who has competed against him. He maintains good communication.”

Talk of the potential meeting between Anies and Prabowo emerged after Kaesang expressed his interest in pairing up with Anies, a staunch critic of his father’s presidency and Prabowo, for the Jakarta race.
