Sohibul Iman served as PKS chairman from 2015 to 2020 and was elected to the House of Representatives for the 2009-2014 and 2014-2019 periods. He has also likely been elected to the body for the 2024-2029 period.
he Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) has named Mohammad Sohibul Iman as its Jakarta gubernatorial candidate for the November simultaneous regional elections
"The candidate we are nominating is Mohamad Sohibul Iman, who currently serves as PKS council deputy chairman," PKS spokesperson Ahmad Mabruri said in an official statement on Sunday.
Shohibul was PKS chairman from 2015 to 2020.
Mabruri said that under Shohibul’s leadership, the PKS experienced significant electoral growth, increasing from 40 seats in the House of Representatives after the 2014 general election to 50 seats after the 2019 poll.
"He has demonstrated his leadership capabilities in bringing the PKS to the next level," Mabruri said, as quoted by cnnindonesia.com.
Sohibul has been elected three times as a House member, serving from 2009 to 2014 and 2014 to 2019, as well as likely for the 2024 to 2029 period. He has also held the position of the House deputy speaker.
Sohibul is a technocrat and Islamic scholar. From 1998 to 2005, he was a researcher in the technology sector at the now-defunct Agency Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT).
