ommunications and Information Minister Budi Arie Setiadi reiterated on Monday the ministry’s apology for the cyberattack on a temporary national data center (PDN) facility, following mounting public pressure on the minister to quit his job.

Budi has faced growing calls to step down after a ransomware attack on the data center facility in Surabaya, East Java, on June 20 caused nationwide disruption to services connected to the server.

The attack was carried out with Brain Cipher, an updated version of the LockBit 3.0 ransomware allegedly used for the hit on sharia lender Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) last year.

Only five of 282 central and regional government’s administration databases have been restored as of Monday, nearly two weeks after the disruption. Budi said last Thursday at the House of Representatives that the ministry aimed to recover all affected databases by the second week of August.

But the ministry already missed its earlier target to recover at least 18 administrations’ databases by the end of June.
