The PKB chair has hinted that the Muslim-based party plans to wait until Prabowo's October inauguration to decide whether it joins the next government or stands as an opposition party.
resident-elect Prabowo Subianto is continuing to court former rivals three months before his inauguration, most recently extending an open invitation to the National Awakening Party (PKB) to be a part of his incoming government.
The political courtship was on full display last week during the opening session of the PKB’s national meeting to which prominent politicians were invited, including top executives from his Gerindra Party.
While Prabowo was unable to attend due to an overseas work trip, he sent his right-hand man Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, the House of Representatives deputy speaker, in his stead.
“My colleagues at Gerindra and I were told by Pak [Mr.] Prabowo that we must make it to this PKB event,” Dasco said in his opening remarks on July 30 at the PKB meeting in Jakarta.
Dasco praised PKB chair Muhaimin Iskandar for his exceptional leadership in growing the Muslim-based party to its current standing.
He then extended Gerindra’s invitation on behalf of Prabowo for the PKB to join the incoming government.
“Moving forward, the PKB and Gerindra and all [other] political parties must unite. It is said that we are ‘old loves’. We are waiting for the PKB to join the incoming government with us,” he added.
