In his final State of the Nation Address as the country's president, Joko "Jokowi" Widodo boasted of the achievements in his 10-year presidency, including the construction of transportation infrastructure and swift economic recovery in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic.
resident Joko “Jokowi” Widodo took up most of his last State of the Nation Address on Friday by listing his achievements, mostly on infrastructure development and the country’s economic progress, as the legacy of his decade-long presidency.
Speaking in front of hundreds of lawmakers and honored guests during the annual People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) plenary session, the outgoing president mentioned infrastructure achievements he had overseen for the country throughout the two terms of his leadership.
Such feats include 366,000 kilometers of village roads, 6,700 km of national roads, as well as 50 new seaports and airports.
This infrastructure, he said, had helped “strengthen the nation’s unity” by allowing more equal and balanced access.
Development of such infrastructure had helped lower logistics costs from 24 to 14 percent in 2023, the President claimed.
“We’ve been able to boost our competitive edge from ranking 44th to ranking 27th in 2024,” Jokowi said.
The President also boasted of the country’s achievements in overcoming the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic under his presidency, saying that the country recovered quickly while maintaining economic growth above 5 percent, unlike other countries.
