The outgoing and incoming presidents discussed a variety of matters over dinner on Tuesday night at a Jakarta restaurant, with Jokowi posting a series of photos of the private meeting to his Instagram account.
resident Joko “Jokowi” Widodo had a private dinner with Defense Minister and president-elect Prabowo Subianto on Tuesday evening, a little less than two weeks before inauguration day on Oct. 20, which marks the formal transfer of power to his successor.
The President uploaded on Tuesday a series of photographs to his social media accounts showing him in his signature white shirt at a restaurant in Jakarta, sitting across from the former Army general in a beige shirt.
“Having a casual discussion over dinner with president-elect Pak [Mr.] Prabowo. More than two hours flew by so quickly,” Jokowi wrote in the caption accompanying the photos.
Presidential special staff coordinator Ari Dwipayana confirmed that the outgoing and incoming presidents met on Tuesday at a restaurant in Senayan, adding that the President had been communicating closely with Prabowo in both formal and informal meetings.
“Togetherness between the nation’s two leaders is necessary to ensure that the transition to the next administration runs well and smoothly,” Ari said on Wednesday.
