t least 15,600 people have been hit by a water crisis in West Sumbawa, West Nusa Tenggara regency, amid a severe drought in the area, prompting local authorities to distribute clean water to affected communities.
Abdul Hamid, the head of the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), said on Tuesday that the drought-hit residents were in 19 villages across six districts.
Since the drought began in May, Abdul said, a total of 23.95 million liters of clean water had been distributed to residents suffering from shortages.
