ouse of Representatives Commission I, which oversees defense, foreign affairs and informatics, is still waiting for an official concept from the Indonesian Military (TNI) on its plan to create new military commands (Kodam), according to one of its lawmakers.

Commission I member Endipat Wijaya from the Gerindra Party said the plan included establishing Kodam XIX with the provinces of Riau and Riau Islands as its area of responsibility (AOR).

Based in Riau’s provincial capital Pekanbaru, Kodam XIX is to consist of Regional Military Command (Korem) 031, also known as the Wirabima command, overseeing Riau and Korem 033/Wira Pratama in the Riau Islands.

The two provinces are currently part of the AOR of Kodam I/Bukit Barisan, headquartered in Medan, North Sumatra, which also oversees West Sumatra.

“How the Kodam will be expanded, we are still waiting for the concept from the TNI,” Endipat said on Friday at a discussion with university students in Batam, the Riau Islands.

“Where the new Kodam [units] will be established by TNI, we will try to control it so that [their] establishment will be effective,” he added.
