15 Indonesian citizens in US affected by Trump’s immigration policy

The Foreign Ministry said 15 Indonesian nationals in the United States had been affected by President Donald Trump’s immigration policy, with one already deported. The Indonesian government now focuses on educating Indonesians there about their legal rights.

he Foreign Ministry reported that 15 Indonesian nationals in the United States had been affected by US President Donald Trump’s immigration policy, with one individual deported for violating the law.

“Until now, based on the information received by Indonesian diplomatic missions, there are 15 citizens affected,” the ministry’s director for Indonesian citizens protection, Judha Nugraha, said on Monday, as quoted by tempo.co.

“Some have been detained, and [one] has been deported.”

According to reports, the deported Indonesian is a student at the University of San Francisco, and the deportation was declared to be done voluntarily.

The student was identified as SM, 21 years old, an economic major at the university, Indonesian Consulate General in San Francisco’s consul for information and sociocultural affairs, Mahmudin Nur Al-Gozaly said, as quoted by detik.com in February.

Judha explained that his ministry is coordinating intensively with the Indonesian Embassy in Washington, DC and consulates general in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston and New York.
