audia Airlines flight SV 5275 carrying 442 haj pilgrims from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to Jakarta was diverted to Kualanamu International Airport outside Medan, North Sumatra, after receiving a bomb threat on Tuesday.

Personnel from the Air Force Rapid Action Force Command (Kopasgat) and the North Sumatra Police Mobile Brigade were deployed to search the aircraft. The Saudia Airlines aircraft, a Boeing 777-300ER with registration number HZ-AK32, was parked at an isolated location near the airport’s cargo terminal.

The passengers were evacuated to the airport’s international waiting room. No passengers were injured during the emergency landing, but the incident caused several flights to be delayed at the airport.

Airport security was tightened with the deployment of personnel from the military and police in addition to the aviation security personnel.

The bomb threat was sent through an email to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, which then informed the pilot of the threat, and instructed him to divert to Kualanamu airport.

The email was received at about 7:30 a.m., AFP reported.
