he West Nusa Tenggara Police have pledged a “professional” and “transparent” investigation into the death of one of their officers, Brig. Muhammad Nurhadi, who was allegedly killed by his superiors.
Nurhadi, an officer with the West Nusa Tenggara Police’s Internal Affairs Division (Propam), was found dead with suspicious injuries in a swimming pool at a rented villa on the popular tourist island of Gili Trawangan on April 16.
At the time of his death, Nurhadi was vacationing with two of his superiors from Propam, Comr. YG and Second Insp. HC, both of whom have since been named suspects in his alleged murder.
Head of the West Nusa Tenggara Police’s General Crime Investigation Division, Sr. Comr. Syarif Hidayat, said the investigation would be carried out professionally, transparently and accountably, despite the fact that the suspects are fellow police officers, while stressing that no one is above the law.
“So far, none of the witnesses we’ve questioned have reported feeling pressured. We are handling this case with care and professionalism, as the individuals involved are not ordinary officers. They previously held positions as head of a narcotics unit and head of a criminal investigation unit,” he said over the weekend.
Syarif said investigators have so far questioned 18 witnesses and consulted five experts in forensics, criminal investigations and polygraph analysis. Polygraph tests were also conducted on YG and HC, both of whom failed the examination.
According to Syarif, the incident began when YG, HC, Nurhadi and two women rented a villa for a party. During the gathering, Nurhadi was allegedly given an illegal substance, though Syarif did not specify the type of substance involved.
