welve students in Manokwari, West Papua, suffered from food poisoning after consuming the government-sanctioned free nutritious meal rations on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the government is set to continue expanding the program despite food safety concerns.
The students were from SMP 13 Manokwari state junior high school and SD 45 Arowi state elementary school. A teacher at the elementary school said the students suffered from dizziness, breathing difficulties and vomiting.
“There are 12 students experiencing symptoms such as dizziness, breathing problems and vomiting,” the teacher said, as quoted by Kompas.com.

“We have sent some of them home and we have also brought some others to the community health center [Puskesmas].”
Manokwari Health Agency head Marten Rantetampang confirmed that his office had examined the children and ensured that health facilities in the regency could treat the patients, especially students who suffer from food poisoning.
“All health facilities are ready to admit patients if they have problems like nausea, dizziness and vomiting,” he said, adding that the schools had taken samples for examination.
