T

he Military Police have named twenty members of the Army suspects in the alleged torture of junior soldier Lucky Chepril Saputra Namo in a barracks in Nagekeo, East Nusa Tenggara that led to his death.

The repeated torture reportedly occurred within the last week of July before Lucky was hospitalized on Aug. 2 with wounds resembling stab marks on his legs and back, and bruises found all over his body. The 23-year-old second private died on Aug. 6 after four days of intensive medical treatment in Aeramo Hospital in Nagekeo regency.

Maj. Gen. Piek Budyakto, chief of the Udayana Military Command, headquartered in Bali, which also oversees East Nusa Tenggara, said that the military police had arrested all twenty suspects by Monday.

“Twenty [soldiers] were named and arrested,” he told reporters after visiting Lucky’s family in Kupang, the capital of East Nusa Tenggara, as quoted by Antara.

Piek revealed that one of the suspects was an officer. He did not elaborate on the rank.

Previously, Army spokesperson Brig. Gen. Wahyu Yudhayana told The Jakarta Post that the first four soldiers named suspects earlier this week were all first privates, identified only by their initials AA, EDA, PNBS and ARR.
