T

wo members of the Indonesian Army’s Special Forces (Kopassus) are among 15 people named as suspects in the abduction and homicide of Muhammad Ilham Pradipta, who headed a branch of the state-owned Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) in Central Jakarta.

On Tuesday, the Jakarta Police and the Jakarta Military Police held a joint press briefing on the case, where investigators revealed the suspects were allegedly plotting to force the victim to help them transfer money from dormant accounts to designated ones they controlled.

Among the suspects were Chief Sgt. N and Second Cpl. FH. who allegedly helped to arrange Ilham’s abduction, said Jakarta Military Police chief Col. Donny Agus Priyanto.

Ilham was kidnapped by five individuals on Aug. 20 from the parking lot of PT Lotte Mart Indonesia’s head office in Ciracas, East Jakarta.

He was later found dead on the next day about 45 kilometers from the location where he was last seen. His body was found by a resident of Nagasari village, Bekasi regency, West Java, while herding cattle in a rice field in the early morning of Aug. 21.

Donny said N was tasked to kidnap Ilham, while FH acted as a middleman in the case and recruited people who later joined with N. Both soldiers were absent from their duty without any notice at the time of the incident, prompting the Military Police to look for them.
