orth Sumatra Police have arrested two individuals in connection with an attempted smuggling of methamphetamine and cannabis from Malaysia, in a drug operation allegedly orchestrated by an Indonesian national living in the neighboring country.
North Sumatra Police Narcotics Unit director Comr. Jean Calvijn Simanjuntak said the first suspect, identified only as S, is a resident of Aceh who had been working illegally in Malaysia.
“He was arrested in Asahan regency, North Sumatra, on Sept. 11. He was allegedly carrying a backpack containing 10 kilograms of methamphetamine disguised as Chinese tea, along with two packages of cannabis weighing 38 grams,” Jean said during a press conference on Sunday.
According to Jean, S allegedly received the drugs from an Indonesian national identified only as B, who is believed to be living in Malaysia. B is currently listed as a fugitive.
