ati Regent Sudewo survived an impeachment motion sought by the public during a Pati Regency Legislative Council (DPRD) plenary meeting on Friday afternoon, ending a turbulent period in the regency since August.
Pati DPRD Speaker Ali Badrudin said that of the seven factions in the council, only one supported impeachment, while six others preferred to recommend a performance improvement plan.
“The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) wanted the regent impeached, while six other factions preferred to give him a recommendation for improvement,” he said after the plenary meeting, as quoted by kompas.com.
The six other factions were the Gerindra Party, United Development Party (PPP), Justice Prosperous Party (PKS), Golkar Party, and a combination of the National Awakening Party (PKB) and Democratic Party.
“Therefore, the winners were the six factions,” said Ali, who is a PDI-P member.
“PDI-P wanted Sudewo to be impeached because he had violated several regulations based on a presentation by a council’s special committee.”
Ali also apologized to the public on the plenary meeting’s result after two months of deliberation discussing Regent Sudewo’s performance.
