n officer of the North Sumatra Police Mobile Brigade (Brimob) found the body of his own mother buried under a landslide while evacuating flood victims in Angin Nauli subdistrict, North Sibolga district, Sibolga city on Monday.
The evacuation process, involving 16 officers of the North Sumatra Brimob, suddenly became a personal tragedy when Adj. First Insp. Simson Pakpahan found his own mother under the mud.
Simson, a member of 1 Coy., C Batt., was overcome with grief while holding his dead mother.
His comrades comforted Simson, who continued with his duty after carrying his mother’s body to an ambulance for removal to Sibolga disaster command post.
Adj. Comr. Alamsyah Surbakti said the team was combing a location affected by landslides in Sibolga. The area was very steep, slippery and covered in rubble and debris.
“It was when combing the area that Simson found the body of his mother, Tiurmarlina boru Sinaga, 70, under the mud,” Alamsyah said on Tuesday.
He added that finding the body caused personal grief, while at the same time reinforcing a sense of solidarity among Brimob officers in the field.
