P

olice have launched an investigation into a gas leak along a pipeline operated by PT Trans Gas Indonesia (TGI) after it triggered an explosion and fire in Batu Ampar village, Indragiri Hilir Regency, Riau, on Friday, injuring at least 10 people.

Indragiri Hilir Police Chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Farouk Oktora said police, together with officials from the Riau Energy and Mineral Resources Agency, immediately began investigating the incident and set up a police cordon after firefighters extinguished the fire at 5:41 p.m. on Saturday.

“The joint team is still collecting statements from witnesses and gathering evidence in the field,” he added.

Farouk said the incident caused six residents to suffer from severe burns while four others were lightly wounded because they fell when escaping.
