Special Crimes Investigation (Reskrimsus) director Sr. Comr. Rahmat Budi Handoko said the North Sumatra Police had applied for the issuance of a Red Notice to the National Police's International Relations Division to assist in arresting Andi.
“We have named Andi Hakim Febriansyah as suspect after detectives conducted a series of investigations,” he said on Thursday.
“Detectives also have enough evidence of the alleged swindling of Rp 28 billion funds belonging to the congregation of Aek Nabara Catholic Church.”
“When detectives were about to question the suspect, he had escaped abroad. Our investigation found that he departed from Bali to Australia on Feb. 28.”
North Sumatra Police have coordinated with the National Police's International Relations Division, Interpol and the Australian Federal Police (AFP) to locate the suspect and secure his immediate arrest, he added.
Rahmat said it began in 2019 when Andi offered the church an investment product dubbed “BNI Investment Deposit”. At the time, he was still serving as head of a BNI sub-branch in Aek Nabara, promising a yield of 8 percent per year. The yield was far above the average interest rate of 3.7 percent for regular time deposits.
