ocation is king, this is a belief strongly held by people in property and retail businesses. For retailers, a good location can increase footfall and offer convenience for customers. But location is probably the least consideration when the government is building red and white cooperatives across the country.
There have been social media posts showing that there are many have been built in areas where footfall is negligible, if any, such as on top of the mountain, in the middle of a jungle, next to a cemetery on the edge of a village, facing rice fields or nestled on hill slopes.
One of the most iconic of these Red and White Cooperatives is in Gunungmasigit village in West Bandung regency, West Java. The cooperative is reportedly sitting on top of a mountain in the Stone Garden tourism site, which is a conservation area where permanent buildings should not exist.
Gunungmasigit village head, Tarkopa, denied that the cooperative was built on top of a mountain but on the mountain's base and still close to human settlements.
“The narrative is the opposite of the truth. The Gunungmasigit KDMP is not on top of the mountain,” he said on Monday, as quoted by Kompas.com.
He said the cooperative’s location is in Stone Garden tourism site but still close to villagers’ area.
Tarkopa said the location was decided by PT Agrinas Pangan Nusantara as KDMP operator. The village, he said, only proposed five locations from its assets of village lands.
